QBOL

Development of a new diagnostic tool using DNA barcoding to identify quarantine organisms in support of plant health

What is QBOL?
QBOL is a project financed by the 7th Framework Program of the European Union that makes collections harboring plantpathogenic quarantine organisms available. Informative genes from selected species on the EU Directive and EPPO lists are DNA barcoded from vouchered specimens. In the next 3 year the sequences, together with taxonomic features, will be included in an internet-based database system.

Who is QBOL?
A consortium of 20 partners (universities, research institutes and phytosanitary organizations) from all over the world working together and sharing their research expertise in the field of DNA barcoding of:

    • Arthropods
    • Bacteria
    • Fungi

• Nematodes
• Phytoplasmas
Viruses

Dissemination of results
QBOL will disseminate the obtained results to stakeholders and end users. With respect to that mandated labs in the EU and in third countries (South America, Asia, Africa ) will be trained in the end phase of the project. The trainings will be organized, coordinated and validated by CIP (Partner 10).
Furthermore QBOL will organize a final symposium and workshop in the Netherlands in 2012. This symposium/workshop is expected to be combined with the EPPO Diagnostics Conference in 2012 and will be organized for all QBOL partners, stakeholders and end users of the QBOL protocols, databases and DNA banks.
